Time TIME

The Earth Rotates on Its Axis One Turn Every 24 Hours

Longitude Lines of longitude run from pole to pole. All lines of longitude are the same length. Longitude lines are not parallel. The Prime Meridian which passes through Greenwich, UK is 0o longitude. The highest longitude is 180o. This is also the International Dateline. East of Greenwich Prime

Day length and time There are 360o in a circle and the Earth rotates one full turn on its axis every 24 hours. Therefore in one hour the Earth rotates 360/24 = 15o. If a place is 30o east of your location, local time will be 2 hours later. If a place is 30o west of your location, local time will be 2 hours earlier.

Time Time depends on the longitude. At 12 noon the sun is at its highest angle. The sun rises in the east and sets in the west. Places east of Greenwich UK will see sunrise earlier. Places to the west will see the sunrise later.
