LEONARDO DA VINCI Transfer of Innovaton mSysTech project Frankfurt am Main Project “ e-Training Microsystems Technologies ” ANALYSIS OF TRAINING NEEDS IN BULGARIA

LEONARDO DA VINCI Transfer of Innovaton mSysTech project Frankfurt am Main Purposes To identify and analyse user requirements and training needs on innovative eLearning materials and problem-based learning skills in microsystems design and fabrication in Bulgaria; To undertake job analysis of microsystem engineering to collect information directly related to the nature of the interactive multimedia products in microsystems technologies under development.

LEONARDO DA VINCI Transfer of Innovaton mSysTech project Frankfurt am Main Limitations Users: Limited number of users, because Microsystems Technology taught only at the Technical University of Sofia Instruments: Non-responsiveness to questionnaires

LEONARDO DA VINCI Transfer of Innovaton mSysTech project Frankfurt am Main Main Questions What knowledge and skills should provide the course in microsystems technology? What delivery method to use? Do the students in microelectronics need on- line courses with in an EPSS?

LEONARDO DA VINCI Transfer of Innovaton mSysTech project Frankfurt am Main Sample professionals from SMEs in microsystems, electronics packaging and communication: EPIQ, MASHO, Hybrid Systems; students at the Faculty of Electronic Technique and Technology; teachers in microelectronics and mechanics; social workers of the regional employment services.

LEONARDO DA VINCI Transfer of Innovaton mSysTech project Frankfurt am Main Instrumentation Questionnaire published on the Web site of the Faculty of Electronics; distributed to the students during the lectures Interviews (non-structured) with some students (8-10); same questions as in the questionnaire and additional questions on the content of the courses in microsystems; with the dean, the head of department Microelectronics and four professors teaching courses with topics in microsystems technology.

LEONARDO DA VINCI Transfer of Innovaton mSysTech project Frankfurt am Main Results (knowledge and skills) Most answers: the planned in the proposal courses in Microsystem design and technology, Packaging technologies, Thermal management of microsystems are the most important. SMEs: problems with heat evacuation and the lack of experts in the field; to include in the MSc curriculum an elective course in Thermal management of microsystems in Bulgarian language.

LEONARDO DA VINCI Transfer of Innovaton mSysTech project Frankfurt am Main Results (delivery) Regular students in Bulgaria, most of which must work and learn, need alternative more flexible learning opportunities on-line courses could be the solution. The interviews with managers of SMEs and social workers of the regional employment services in Botevgrad specialised in microelectronics for years more than 30% of jobless people and at the same time the enterprises need low qualified workers but with a minimum competencies in sciences and technology. e-learning may be a good solution for them.

LEONARDO DA VINCI Transfer of Innovaton mSysTech project Frankfurt am Main Results Internet-based Performance Support System (IPSS) IPSS, being an integrated electronic environment, which is available via Internet is structured to provide individualized access to the full range of information, guidance, advice, data, images, tools and software to permit the user to perform a task with a minimum of support and intervention by others responds to the requirements of both, SMEs and Universities.

LEONARDO DA VINCI Transfer of Innovaton mSysTech project Frankfurt am Main Recommendations Without simulation effective Web-based instruction in microsystems is impossible, so the users are interested in both, the quality of the simulation facilities of the learning environment and the simulation-based tutorials and assignments. To regularly up-date the training materials because of the rapid development of microelectronics and microsystems technologies.
