Presentation transcript:

The Rainforest It is also known as “earth’s largest pharmacy”, because over one quarter of our medicines have been discovered there. Around 40%-75% of biotic species are indigenous to the rainforest. They are responsible for 28% of earths oxygen turnover.

Annual Rainfall= inches For the tropical rainforest the temperature is roughly 83% For temperate it is roughly 75 degrees

Tropical Rainforest Temperate Rainforest

OrangutanChamelion Parrots They are among some of the most intelligent primates Have unusually longer arms than any other primates Natives to Malaysia and Indonesia They use a variety of tools to make sleeping nest every night. They have separate moving eyes and are recognized for their parrot like feet. There are over 160 species of chameleons' They are found in Spain, Africa, Asia, and some parts of the US. There are around 357 species of parrots They are found in mostly the southern hemisphere, such as Australia and South America They are usually brightly colored with a distinctivly curved beak

Rafflesia Arnoldii Orchids Buttress Root Tree The largest living flower Has a strong odor of decaying flesh (“Corpse Flower”) They are found in Indonesia One of the two largest families of flowering plants have nearly 26,000 species. They are found in nearly every habitat apart from glaciers. They are always in flux. These roots grow because of the lack of nutrients in the rainforest soil They can grow as high as fifteen feet They also have a very shallow root system because of the poor soil

Clearing the rainforest is the largest environmental problem it faces Farmers are destroying it to make room for their crops to grow Also it is being cut down to make a big sell with it’s lumber

A solution to stop the deforestation of the rainforest would be to find other places to plant crops without harming the environment Also planting trees where destruction of the rainforest has already happened can help give it a push to rebuilding itself
