Fashion The kimono ( 着物 ? ) [1] is a Japanese traditional garment worn by women, men and children. The word "kimono", which literally means a "thing to wear" (ki "wear" and mono "thing"), [2] has come to denote these full-length robes. The standard plural of the word kimono in English is kimonos, [3] but the unmarked Japanese plural kimono is also sometimes used. ? [1] [2] [3] A yukata ( 浴衣 ? ) is a Japanese garment, a casual summer kimono usually made of cotton. People wearing yukata are a common sight in Japan at fireworks displays, bon-odori festivals, and other summer events. History The Jōmon period lasted from about 14,000 BC until 500 BC.
