Human Body Systems Lesson 18 Terms and Definitions

Q: How does a chicken wing relate to a human arm?

Bone Structure

Tissue Types… 4 types of tissue 1.Muscle Tissue 2.Nervous Tissue 3.Epithelial Tissue (skin) 4.Connective Tissue

Connective Tissues Includes –Tendons –Ligaments –Bones

Connective Tissue Tendons – Connect muscle to bones. –silvery-white tissue at the ends of the muscles –Non-elastic = muscles contract and tendons pull the bones causing movement.

Connective Tissue Ligaments – Connect bones at joints. –Elastic to allow For movement

Joints and Cartilage Joints – Places where bones meet. Cartilage – firm tissue at the ends of bones. –Glossy white, protects and lubricates bones at joints.

Skeletal Muscles Muscles are connected to bones by tendons. ONLY pull or contract. Work in opposing pairs.
