FAITH explained Hebrews 11

The path into God’s presence Heb 11:6 – But without FAITH it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, & that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, the Israelites, Judges & Prophets

The path into God’s presence 2 Tim 3:16 – Scripture is inspired: Theos, “God,” pneo, “to breathe” OLD TESTAMENT: Patience & comfort in hope of a coming Savior & Christ (Rom 15:4) NEW TESTAMENT: God’s children by faith in Christ (Gal 3:26); live by faith (Rom 1:17) Faith is an elementary principle (Heb 6:1)

Degrees of faith A Centurion: “great faith” (Matt 8:5-11) Disciples: “little faith” (Matt 8:23-27) Unlearned: “weak faith” (Rom 14:1) Faith only: “dead faith” (Jas 2:17)

FAITH DESCRIBED (Heb 11:1) “Substance” or “Assurance” Bedrock under our hope (Heb 10:34-39) “Evidence” or “Conviction” Proof of what is unseen { Scripture is the foundation of FAITH}

FAITH is TRUST Abraham had confidence in God Heb 11:17-19; Gen 22:7-8; Heb 11:19 Many believe, but have no trust in God Acts 26:27-29; Jas 2:19; Jn 12:42

FAITH is PERSUASION Having no doubts in God’s word James 1:6 – BUT let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven & tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord Jas 1:17; 4:2; Matt 7:7-11

FAITH is COMMITMENT Paul’s life was on “deposit” w/ the Lord 2 Tim 1:12 – For this reason I also suffer these things [he was a prisoner on death row]; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know [TRUST] whom I have believed & am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day. Through FAITH our salvation is secure (2 Tim 4:18; 1 Pet 1:5)

A Failure of FAITH (1 Kgs 13) The Young Prophet lacked TRUST, PERSUASION & COMMITMENT. The word of a man became the bedrock of his faith instead of the Word of God.

Where Does Your Faith Rest? In men? Or In God & His Word!

Salvation From Sin: Eternal Life Put Your Faith in Christ through the Gospel John 8:24; 20:30-31; Rom 1:16; 10:9-10; Mark 16:16; Heb 11:6 Repent or turn from your sins Luke 24:46-47; Acts 2:38; 3:19; 17:30-31 Confess your faith in Christ Matt 10:32-33; Acts 8:36-38; Rom 10:9-10 Be immersed in water Matt 28:19; Mk 16:16; Acts 2:38; Rom 6:3-4; 1 Pet 3:21 Live in obedient faith Heb 5:8-9; 1 Peter 1:14; Rev 2:10
