Introduction This December I completed my fifth year as a certified teacher. After 20 years in the work force I decided I could better serve my community and culture by becoming a Bilingual Elementary Teacher. I have taught third, fourth and fifth grade. Presently, I am preparing to loop with my current class. I teach in the Roswell School District in New Mexico where the student body is primarily Hispanic. In trying to serve the diverse needs of my students, I find it imperative to continue my education. Currently I am working on my master’s degree in Technology in Education. My continued education has helped me address the needs of my diverse learners as well as model that there is no age limit to enriching our lives. Students wrote a narrative about their hat.

Conceptual Framework My philosophy continue to take definition with every year’s experiences. Click on picture to read about my teaching philosophy.

Reflection on Module 2.3 This module helped me to recognize barriers I had not thought of before. Parents and children were barrier I had not thought of as barriers. I am an advocate for parent involvement so I automatically think of parents as a positive. However, when discussing this with my group I realized that even well meaning parents can create obstacles when they are not well informed. Unfortunately, some parents do not care to be informed and do not value education. This attitude, which is modeled to the student can also create barriers. I believe keeping parents informed and involved will keep parents from becoming barriers. Administrative mandates are barriers I had thought of but one of the solutions not one I had contemplated. One suggestion was that teachers need to band together and challenge at higher level –legislative. As long as teachers are divided her and some and the strength that require solidarity will not have a chance against any mandate made without teacher input. I believe collaboration and solidarity is necessary here. I need to support my peers at this level. Perhaps going to board meeting and reporting to my fellow teachers. Over all I found this module valuable because with every barrier that is identified solutions are then possible.

Reflection on Module 4.2 This module helped me to connect with the different types of reasoning needed in coming up with appropriate assessment material. The hands-on really made a difference for me it allowed me to take theory and put it into practice. I was very hesitant to try for fear I would not do it correctly. Once I got started I found that it was common sense. I have already come up with some quizzes. My students noticed and were very vocal. They notice that the questions were clear and not ‘fuzzy’ as one mentioned. I may not make my own tests but I will now be able to determine which tests are appropriate and able to make appropriate adjustments.

Reflection on Module 5.1 I really appreciated this module. Although I know I have a good understanding of how to illicit different types of reasoning Stiggins has given me a well defined professional academic structure to work with. I personally do not articulate at an academic level as much as I should. Writing this paper helped to identify and give evidence to the strategies I use. In my class we refer to the Bloom’s Taxonomy chart in our class when students are unclear about the purpose of certain questions. I catch the students using it for direction by looking for key vocabulary. They really get excited when their assumptions are reaffirmed with this tool. Since I have explained to them that we do Use a different types of reasoning for different purposes, they are interested in knowing if they are. In the future I plan to go to this portion of the text and review this as I plan my the assessments for my lessons.

Goals My goals as a leader are to continue to sharing the materials I use in my own classroom. Presently I help teachers on a one on one basis, but I feel after I become comfortable with assessment I could give a seminar. I do plan to take a more active role when it comes to district collaboration over text adoption and implementation of assessment. As for assessment in my class I have already begun using the guides on developing test. I have also started using this knowledge at our team planning meetings and discussing what I have learned with my principal. I have used technology in my classroom since I started teaching. I have several jeopardy power points I use for introduction and reviews. I plan to revise them using the guides on creating assessment.
