5 genre fiction: realistic * characters or events seem real * what characters say or do could happen in real life

6 genre fiction: historical * story takes place in particular time period * story includes real event(s) * characters usually from author’s imagination

7 genre fiction: fantasy * can be set in any time period * characters may have special powers * actions of characters may seem real even though not possible
