9.4- Returning from War African American soldiers who returned from World War II found many new opportunities available to them. GI Bill- an act designated to help soldiers attend college or receive advanced training in a career. It also provided loans to returning soldiers who wished to buy homes

GI Bill African Americans found it difficult to take full advantage of the bill. It was difficult for many soldiers to attend college with a family. College admission boards discriminated against African Americans.

Effects of the GI Bill Black college enrollment increased greatly. Many attended HBCUs. United Negro College Fund (UNCF)- created to give financial support to AA students
