The Battle of Trenton On Christmas night 1776 Washington and his troops cross the Delaware river They move towards Trenton arriving at 8 am The Americans attack, 60 minutes later the Hessians are captured or dead Turning Point; American enlistments were due to expire soon and the Americans needed a lift and got one. The 1 st victory in the war. It improves morale, and increases enlistments

Southern Leaders Generals Greene and Morgan were good leaders Greene knew the landscape and made Cornwallis’s troops chase him Morgan won the Battle of Cowpens using a 2 line strategy to lure the British into attacking. Francis Marion (the swamp fox) hid by day and moved by night to effectively use guerilla tactics to attack the enemy

The Battle of Yorktown Cornwallis leads the British forces in the south and faces Lafayette Lafayette made small raids against the British because he lacked a large army His role was to keep an eye on Cornwallis and harass him when he had the chance Cornwallis was ordered back to NY He made a mistake and stayed in Virginia

Yorktown Continued Instead he moves to Yorktown to re-supply his army Washington gets the news and rushes to Virginia with the French General Rochambeau. They join Lafayette and trap Cornwallis To his surprise the British navy is not there but the French navy is. The French cut off all support and Cornwallis is forced to surrender
