 This technology has many practical application.  E-Commerce: People now use the internet to buy and to sell goods and services.  E-learning: Short and long training courses are available online.

 General purpose software and software applications are useful for most tasks. However, they are also specialist uses of computer system, and these often require special hardware and software systems. These can be found in gaming, law enforcement, industry, science, music and medicine.

 Games make use of specialist peripherals to give a more realistic experience of the action of the game.

 Police force make use of specialist input devices to record faces, fingerprint and DNA. The software will then match these with electronic records, stored on the computer system.

 A number of industry depend on computers to control processes. For example, a furnace or a cold store will have to be kept at the right temperature. Computer can be used to monitor environments and industry system.

 Scientist also make use of computer monitoring. In experiments, it is often important to keep track of conditions – examples might be the pH(acidity) of a solution or the position of a glacier.

 Music editing systems allow the user to record audio tracks and store them in the computer memory as digital audio. They can manipulate the music in man ways such as:  Edit the start time and duration  Fade into or out of a track  Mix multiple tracks  Apply sound effect or filter

 A number of specialist systems are use in the hospitals. Here are some examples: ◦ CT scan: This is short for X-Ray Computed Tomography. ◦ MRI scan: this short for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. ◦ Expert Systems: These are complex software models that use stored information to provide answer to problem.

 It uses computer power to generate a three dimensional image of the inside of the body.

 This uses magnetism to produce a detailed image of body tissue that cannot be pick up by X-Rays.

 Choose an area of work where computers are used to solve problems and bring benefits. Write a report on all the uses of computers in this area of work.  Define the following: ◦ Robots ◦ Computer-Aided design ◦ Computer-aided manufacture ◦ Computer aided engineering ◦ Teleconferencing ◦ Cloud Computer ◦ Wearable technology ◦ Smart Object
