Florida’s Race to the Top High-achieving students Pioneering Data Systems Common Core of Rigorous Standards and Assessments Top Notch Teachers and School Leaders

Purpose of Race to the Top Grant Funds  Improve our ability to assess student learning against rigorous, common core standards  Improve our ability to collect, analyze, and use data to inform classroom instruction, guide professional development of teachers and administrators, and link compensation to performance  Create evaluations of teacher and administrator performance that are strongly linked to student learning outcomes  Transform our lowest performing schools to high performing schools

Standards and Assessments  Modify school schedules to accommodate lesson study  Implement a high school career and technical STEM program  Increase the number of STEM accelerated courses  Ensure that each school possesses the technology for improved classroom instruction and computer-based assessment

Data Systems to Support Instruction Accessing and using State data  Provide customer-friendly access to state data systems and information  Use state-level and local data to improve instruction  Acquire a Learning Management System  Provide requested data to FLDOE

Great Teachers and Leaders  Design and implement teacher and principal evaluation systems  Use evaluations to inform professional development, compensation, promotion and retention  Implement a compensation system to:  ensure equitable distribution of effective teachers and principals  provide incentives for the recruitment of effective teachers in hard-to-staff subjects and specialty areas

Turning Around the Lowest-Achieving Schools Expand opportunities for students to attend career and professional academies, especially STEM academies Expand or introduce proven programs to encourage advanced classes, positive behavior support systems, mentoring, and curricula that provide high-need students with college-ready, career-ready, or other postsecondary skills

RTTT’s Impact on Postsecondary Education Over forty states and the District of Columbia have adopted the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) Partnership for the Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) –$350 million of Race to the Top Fund set aside for awards to consortia of states to design and develop common K-12 assessment systems aligned to common, college- and career-ready standards –Administer new assessments statewide by
