Sportsmanship Policy It is the policy of LaSalle High School to actively promote the ideals of sportsmanship, ethics, and integrity. In conjunction with our mission as a Catholic educational community, it is our central task to follow not only the letter, but also the spirit of the rules governing the Greater Catholic League and the Ohio High School Athletic Association. Winning is clearly the designed outcome of intensely played competition. However, winning at LaSalle High School will not come at the expense of our integrity and well-being of our student athletes. Respect is the central to the mission of LaSalle High School. Through athletic competition we have a tremendous opportunity to demonstrate respect for coaches, players, game officials, and fans. It is the responsibility of the administration team at LaSalle High School to not only enforce the policy on sportsmanship, ethics, and integrity, but to work daily to foster these ideals in our staff, student body and community. Sportsmanship Policy If an incident is reported regarding unsportsmanlike behavior of a player, coach, or fan, the Athletic Director will investigate the complaint. The Athletic Director will confer with the Principal and the Dean of Students regarding the complaint.

Sportsmanship Policy Based upon the findings of the investigation, the parties involved are subject to the following consequences: Appropriate apology Suspension Dismissal from the team Various disciplinary action from the school **This policy is in effect 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year on and off LaSalle High School premises

Player/Parent Chain of Command LaSalle High School

Chain of Command It is one of our responsibilities to teach our student-athletes to be responsible. Therefore, it is imperative we begin the “chain of command” with our student-athletes.

Chain of Command If a situation or a concern arises in a sport, the following steps must be followed: 1.The student-athlete will ask his level or position coach for a meeting. The coach will set the time and location of the meeting within a responsible time period, usually one-week. 2. If the concerns are not satisfactory resolved at the first meeting, a meeting will be arranged with the head varsity coach (athletic director if the conflict is with the head varsity coach) and the student-athlete. 3.If there is still no resolve, the athletic director will set up a meeting with the athlete, coach, head coach and parents. As adults, we understand that things do not always work out the way we would like them to. This is also a valuable lesson for our student-athletes. 4. Only after these steps have been taken is it appropriate for a student-athlete or parent to go to the principle for resolve.

Chain of Commend Please make sure your son has tried to solve the problem first, without your intervention. Do not attempt to confront a coach before or after a contest or practice. These can be emotional times for both the parent and the coach. Meetings of this nature do not promote resolution, only conflict.

Dealing with Parents 2. Rules of Confrontation -Follow the “Chain of Communication” -Coach must set the location and time of meeting -Be ready to listen -Avoid win/lose situations

Dealing with Parents 3. How to Listen -It’s okay to disagree – don’t be disagreeable -Let the parent speak -Take notes -Repeat concerns – make sure they are specific -Go back to philosophy and policies you have in writing.

Dealing with Parents 4. Other -Have discipline policies in writing – give to AD for approval -Lead by example -Emphasize values -When discipline measures are taken, give the athlete a day to tell parents and then call them

Bob Krueger Sportsmanship Award LaSalle High School

Bob Krueger Sportsmanship Award During the School Year the LaSalle High School Athletic Department committed itself to stemming the tide of poor sportsmanship that is far too prevalent in our society today. One of the approaches we used was to celebrate and reward good sportsmanship with the Bob Krueger Sportsmanship Award.

Bob Krueger Sportsmanship Award This award in now annually given to an athlete in each sport who, in his eyes of his coaches, displays exceptional sportsmanship. We defined the characteristics a Bob Krueger defined his life; a tough, hard-nosed competitor, but always a gentleman. He would knock you down between the whistles and then be the first to help you up. Bob retired from LaSalle High School after 37 years of service to LaSalle. Bob served as Head Football Coach, Athletic Director and Dean of Students.
