About WIKI Wikis are a newer tool in the big group of collaborative technology that includes things like chat, and web boards, and this class is growing all the time. In the "The Wiki Way", the founder of the wiki, Ward Cunningham, describes wikis in this way "freely expandable collection of interlinked Web 'pages,' a hypertext system for storing and modifying information a database, where each page is easily editable by any user with a forms-capable Web browser client".

About WIKI The features that make wikis so "easy-to- use" include; simple and quick editing and uploading of webpages, no need to know HTML, specialized text or WikiWords create the links, anyone in the world can change anything on a wiki, (although this can be managed) and tracking history that allows reverting to previous editions of a page.

Most famous Wiki The software is open source and free of charge. Twiki: Mediawiki:

LRC Home This part of the wiki is an illustrative F-drive, where we keep important information and place it in context for the purpose of institutional memory! Unlike the Collaborative workspace (in progress work), the Home space is for final project pieces to provide examples of past work. Remember the Wiki does not replace the F-Drive; it reframes F-Drive documents in context. News Contract information Staff InfoFinal Report information Survey information Templates and procedures

LRC Home Spaces News – LRC in the news and other important info for staff Staff info – contact info and schedules Survey info – information about surveys and final instruments as well as survey specific procedurals Grants/Contracts- info on creating contracts as well as examples from projects Final Reports – collection of final reports for all LRC projects Templates and procedures- research how-to guides, office skills overview (for training), tech support issues

Updating and Adding Content to the Home Space Survey contracts/grants should be added when they are accepted by the granting agency Survey instruments should be added once a final version is available. Survey documentation/procedures should be added once finalized Survey reports should be final versions Feel free to add to/edit content to reflect current practice Questions about what content goes where can be directed to Lauren

Wiki Uses Collaboration area –current projects – teamwork on projects before they are finished and moved to the static LRC Home pages –staff pages – for attachments and other information you’ll need outside the LRC –new ideas forum – as always new ideas for projects keep things interesting and well-funded!
