PRY Base - Contents l PRY Support/Base/Platform in the MICE Hall l History l Requirements l Environment l Design l Structural Integrity l Preparation l Installation l Absorber Change l Schedule l Conclusion l Step V CONCEPT – Initial Look Jason Tarrant – Integration Engineering

Pre-September 2013 Review Integrated with Step IV Devices Brookhaven Yoke Design (H Witte, S Plate) Integrated into the MICE Hall

PRY – April Piece Design with central access to AFC for absorber changes Simplified end- plates with improved magnetic field coverage & structural properties Reduced number of more compact legs now with symmetry S-N (STFC responsible for platform / base / floor fixing in MICE Hall) Brookhaven Yoke Design (H Witte, S Plate) Finalised structural details for full assembly Features for service and environment compatibility added

PRY Base - Environment l Requirements – North side Plates & trench roof on north side Edge of main concrete floor / trench Services in trench on wall and ceiling Services trench directly under leg Trench ends False floor

PRY Base - Environment l Requirements – South side South mezzanine uprights Services trench Ramp Walkway South Shield Wall

PRY Base - Environment l Requirements - Services Tracker Cryo South mezzanine Vacuum system

PRY Base - Design l TD North East Quadrant Existing Base PRY Legs PRY Connector Tie down bars and bases External Support Bridge Trench & trench services Trench edge Under tension during main PRY assembly Under compression Key Internal Support Bridge

PRY Base - Design l TD – North West Quadrant Modified Base (cutaway) PRY Legs PRY Connector Tie down bars and bases Support Bridge Trench & trench services Trench edge Short columns where raised floor ends Vacuum system (installed later)

PRY Base - Design l TD – South West Quadrant New base / platform PRY Legs PRY Connector Vacuum system Support Bridge Tie down bars and bases Concrete Floor Brackets and floor anchors Short columns where raised floor ends

PRY Base - Design l TD – South East Quadrant New base / platform PRY Legs PRY Connector Support Bridge Services trench Brackets and floor anchors Vacuum system South mezzanine supports Concrete Floor

PRY Base - Requirements l Requirements – Assembly load for floor fixing Floor Fixing ~25 tonnes (self weight) Load trying to overturn PRY half Compressive load Tensile load NO CAPACITY FOR SIGNIFICANT MAGNETIC LOAD IN FLOOR FIXING: Cross-bars, leg ties & link plates will take magnetic loads Partial Support, (ignored for load calc = worst case)

PRY Base – Structural Integrity l Analysis & calculation

PRY Base – Structural Integrity l Testing Floor anchor pull out (TD )

PRY Base - Preparation l South Mezzanine Full length of hinged platforms Raised platforms Reduced leading edge & cut beams Removable section for easy absorber change Fit around PRY Bridge support for Tracker Cryo

PRY Base - Preparation l Trench Water circuit move Ladder move and change North-east tie bars pass between trench services (water and ISIS cables

PRY Base - Installation l Installation - Bases Floor anchors (TD ) Pillars, tie plates (TD ) Top plate installation (blue) & hole drilling (TD )

PRY Base - Installation l Installation – PRY Frame Survey internal support bridges into place Add legs & connectors (+ bespoke shims to set position) Add outer bridges Add tie downs / bolt to floor

PRY Base – Absorber Change Absorber change

PRY Base – Schedule l Schedule Prep for South & North Bases by October 2014 then await PRY Frames

Conclusion – Step IV PRY Base l Production Readiness Review (PRR) for PRY Monday 28 th April, all OK to continue. l Calculation and analysis show design of bases / platforms is OK for self weight during installation (not magnetic load) both stress & strain l PRY Base / Platform design done & all parts drawings complete & released (top level = TD ,2153,2136 & 2090). l 90% Piece parts have been delivered, remainder imminent. l Floor anchors and fitting kit delivered. l South mezzanine structural changes being quoted for. l Awaiting asbestos removal to start marking out l Schedule currently predicting manufacture, prep and install of bases ahead of PRY delivery Required Delivered

Step V PRY – CONCEPT Interface sections 200 mm thick H 2 System Large ‘capped’ mid section around RFCC, ~250 mm thick Conceptual Step V Partial Return Yoke (H Witte, S Plate, J Tarrant) Recycled section of current PRY moved downstream Magnet Cable Junction Boxes South Mezzanine Platform Services apertures RF Waveguides

Step V PRY – CONCEPT l Step V PRY Specific Modifications l H2 System l South Mezzanine l RF Waveguides l False floor support l RFCC RF supports add reconfigure cantilever & raise H2 system access and Step V PRY configuration will make absorber changes slow!
