Presentation transcript:

Skeletal System By Mrs. Genetta Spratt

Skeleton There are 206 bones in an adult body. Bones give your body shape and help you move. Bones are not easily broken. If broken they can repair themselves.

Skull Made up of 28 bones. Protects the brain. The skull gives your face shape.

Bones in Your Hand Inside your hand there are 27 separate bones. Humans have two hands. Bones in the hand are called metacarpals. The bones in the fingers are called phalanges

Bones in Your Feet The foot has 26 bones making up the heel, ankle, body and toes. The main body of the foot is called metatarsals. The toes are called phalanges.

Ribs 12 pairs of ribs. They are connected to the breast bone with flexible cartilage allowing the rib cage to expand as you breath. Protect the lungs and heart.

Vertebrae There are 26 vertebra that extends from brain to tail bone. Vertebra are separated by a cartilage that keeps the bones from grinding on each other.

Types of Joints Hinge joint works like opening and closing a door. Allows body parts to bend and straighten. ( Elbow, knee, ankle) Ball and Socket joints twist and turn. Allows movement in any direction. (Shoulder, hip) Gliding joints allow flat bones to slide over each other. (Foot, wrist) Condyloid joints allow the head to nod and fingers to bend.
