Our Process  Download the application at  Complete and submit the Application for Credential Evaluation by our priority deadline  SEPTEMBER 28, 2012  Your credential analyst will review your records, verify that all requirements have been met and will send you a status  When grades post your analyst will reopen your file and complete the recommendation process  Files are worked in date order so applying by the priority deadline ensures that if all requirements are met, you will be recommended for your credential by mid February.

The Application Form Includes: Page 1 - Instructions Page 2 - Checklist Page 3 - Application Cover Page (where you tell us who you are and what type of credential you are applying for Page 4 - Instructions on paying your SDSU Evaluation Processing Fee Page 5 - Receipt (returned to you for proof that you submitted your application)

Required documents to be submitted with your application  Credential Request Form (page 3 of your application packet)  Verification of payment of your credential evaluation fee  Copy of your WebPortal Transcripts  All transcripts from institutions other than SDSU (if you have not previously submitted these to your department)  RICA (for Multiple Subject applicants only)  CPR (Infant, Child & Adult – must be valid through the recommendation date)  CSU Exit Survey (found at - submit copy of confirmation pagewww.csuexitsurvey.org

The common questions  What if I’m scheduled for an exam (CSET or RICA) after your priority application date?  What if my professor has asked that we not complete the CSU Exit Survey until we complete our student teaching?  What if my CPR expires during this semester?  Can I fax my application to your office?  Can I add an additional subject to my credential?  Do I need to apply for graduation?

Added Subjects  There are two types of subject authorizations that can be added to your existing credential:  Subject Matter Authorization  Supplementary Authorization  Both require additional coursework in the specific subject area  Each differs in the grade levels that can be taught  Only 1 is NCLB compliant

Supplementary & Subject Matter Authorizations SUPPLEMENTARYSUBJECT MATTER 20 SEMESTER UNITS – of non- remedial course work - Grade C or better OR 32 SEMESTER UNITS – of non remedial course work – Grade C or better OR A degree in a major directly related to the subject

Supplementary & Subject Matter Authorizations SUPPLEMENTARYSUBJECT MATTER TYPE 1: INTRODUCTORY – May be added to both Multiple (MS) & Single Subject (SS) Credential MS Credential – authorized to teach departmentalized classes related to the supplementary in grades 9 and below SS Credential – authorized to teach subject matter content typically included in curriculum guidelines and textbooks for grades 9 and below TYPE 1: INTRODUCTORY – May be added to both Multiple Subject (MS) and Single Subject (SS) Credentials. Authorized to teach the subject matter content typically included in curriculum guidelines and textbooks approved for study in grades 9 and below TYPE 2: SPECIFIC – May be added to SS credential only – Authorized to teach the specific subject in grades preschool, kindergarten – 12 and classes organized primarily for adults TYPE 2: SPECIFIC – May be added to both MS and SS credentials. Authorized to teach the specific subject in grades preschool, kindergarten – 12, and classes organized primarily for adults

Supplementary & Subject Matter Authorizations SUPPLEMENTARYSUBJECT MATTER NCLB compliant? NONCLB compliant? YES Worksheets to aid you in determining whether your are eligible for these are available as you leave this meeting. Please include the worksheet with your application when you submit it to our office.

 Your final credential document will be issued online and posted directly at the CTC website: 

APLE (Assumption Program of Loans for Education)  APLE applications for 2012/13 are not being accepted  If you applied for the program prior to June 30, 2012 your application is being processed by the CA Student Aid Commission (CSAC)  Please keep your contact information current with the CSAC by creating a MyAPLE account at:

Clearing your credential  Mandatory that within first 5 years of teaching you obtain a “Clear Credential”  Additional coursework is required – Two routes: Clear and Induction  SDSU is currently running a Clear program. The Induction program is pending  Must be employed to complete a “Clear” program  Must complete program with your district if they offer a program  Can enroll at SDSU if your employer does not offer a BTSA or Induction Program.  Brochures available as you leave today’s meeting
