Application of System Study in Libraries By Bhupendra Ratha, Lecturer S. L. I. Sc., D.A.V.V., Indore Id:

System The word system was coined from Greek word systema, the meaning of which the interactive collection of various process of achieving the common goals. A System is a set of inter-related or inter- connected various components which operate together to achieve certain goals as per plan. Systems can be natural or man made.

Study Study is a process to understanding a particular field that carried out for improvement and development of the entire system, so that, if the system has any default part that can be removed, modified or improved. System Study/Analysis System study/analysis means the study of the system by analyzing its components and all operations related to them. System study/analysis means the study of the system by analyzing its components and all operations related to them.

System Analysis in Libraries When a library is surrounded by different kinds of difficult problems and becomes unable in providing effective library service to its users, then the system analysis of the library is essential at that time. Components of Library System Library resources and Infrastructure Library procedure and techniques Library staff or organizational structure

System Analysis in Libraries Due to the expansive nature of the functions of library, there are two types of systems; Due to the expansive nature of the functions of library, there are two types of systems; 1. Data processing system 2. Informative system But specifically a library system mainly has 6 types of subsystems these are as follows; But specifically a library system mainly has 6 types of subsystems these are as follows; 1. Acquisition subsystem 2. Circulation subsystem 3. Administrative subsystem 4. Technical processing subsystem 5. Reference subsystem 6. Serial control subsystem

Who should System Analyst? –System Designers –Programmers –Management –Auditors –Operational staff –Users

Role of System Analyst Skills needed to be an analyst Skills needed to be an analyst –Ability to communicate orally and in writing –Excellent interpersonal skills –Technical leadership –Keen sense of observation and an analytical mind –Problem solving skills –Flexibility and adaptability

System Analysis Techniques We can use different techniques to analysis the library system such as 1. O bservation 2. E xamination of documents 3. D iagramming Techniques

Application of System Analysis Success of library depends on a good SAD. In determination of our system limitations. In improving and modifying the library services.
