By Ryan C., Jack W. and Hannah S.. Conduction is heat getting transferred.
How Can Heat be Transferred?. Temperature and Heat What measures the temperature of matter? –Thermometer Temperature of matter is caused by particles.
Chapter 1-2 Convection and the Mantle.  Heat always moves from warmer to cooler  Three types of heat transfer  Radiation – transfer of energy through.
Remember! Heat is transferred in three different ways:
Thermal Energy. 1.Thermal Energy is the vibration or movement of atoms and molecules. 2.All matter has thermal energy because the atoms are always moving.

Heat Transfer.
Radiation – the transfer of energy through space. Heat transfer by radiation takes place with no direct contact between a heat source and an object. Example.

Heat and the 2 nd Law of Thermodynamics.  Although we learned in the first law that the total amount of energy, including heat, is conserved in an isolated.
Conduction, Convection, Radiation, oh my!!. Conduction –Involves objects in direct contact –2 objects in contact are at unequal temperature –Example:
 Heat can be transferred from one molecule to another. As one molecule is heated it begins to move and shake rapidly. As it does, it passes some of its.

Thermodynamics The movement of Heat

Two Questions: What are the three ways in which heat can travel? What direction does heat travel? Listen and find out!

The First and Second Laws By Flanders & Swann

The First Law of Thermodynamics: Heat is work and work is heat

The Second Law of Thermodynamics: Heat cannot of itself pass from one body to a hotter body Heat won't pass from a cooler to a hotter You can try it if you like but you far better notter 'Cos the cold in the cooler with get hotter as a ruler Because the hotter body's heat will pass to the cooler

First Law: Heat is work and work is heat and work is heat and heat is work Heat will pass by conduction Heat will pass by convection Heat will pass by radiation And that's a physical law!

Heat is work and work's a curse And all the heat in the Universe Is gonna cooool down 'cos it can't increase Then there'll be no more work and there'll be perfect peace - Really? Yeah - that's entropy, man!

That you can't pass heat from the cooler to the hotter Try it if you like but you far better notter 'Cos the cold in the cooler will get hotter as a ruler 'Cos the hotter body's heat will pass to the cooler And all because of the Second Law of Thermodynamics, which lays down:

Oh, you can't pass heat from the cooler to the hotter You can try it if you like but you'll only look a fooler 'Cos the cold in the cooler will get hotter as a ruler That's a physical Law!

Oh, I'm hot! -Hot? That's because you've been working! Oh, Beatles - nothing! That's the First and Second Laws of Thermodynamics!

What are the three ways in which heat can travel? –Conduction –Convection –Radiation What direction does heat travel? –From hot to cold NOT UP!
