Information Technology is taught as a separate subject in school for one hour a week from 5-th to 10-th grade. All schools have computer labs and permanent access to the Internet. The students in the school are from 11 to 19 years old.

But with the introduction of new technologies and the problem of students dropping out of school we work on many projects that aim to: Providing broadband optical connectivity to educational institutions that allows working with multimedia aids in real-time, implementation of online tutorials, etc.; open educational and research environment to mobile devices and start of successful practices in mobile learning (m-learning); introduction of digital platform for video tutorials, teleconferences and providing electronic textbooks with interactive content on all general subjects.

Distribution of Internet The overall level of internet access in the country is 54%, whereas in the European Union the average rate is 79%.

Bulgaria is last in Europe in terms of available computers in the classroom and opportunities for the use and training sessions. In Bulgarian schools, 11 students have on average one computer or terminal site, while the EU average figure is 4.

Since 2003, government policy has been introduced for the implementation of security measures and safety of pupils in the network.

In the future an electronic system recognizing age will be introduced and the owners and administrators of websites will have to apply clear and visible policy of protection of personal data and to provide a system for mandatory parental consent for the processing of data of children under 13 years.
