3 What types of emergencies could occur? Hazardous Material:  Overturned truck  Water treatment plant  Industrial accident  Name some more

4 What types of emergencies could occur? Intentional or Man Made:  Bomb  Riot  Gang Related  Person with Gun or Knife  Name some more

5 Pre-planning Questions What are normal conditions? What are the warning signs? What happens when a disaster happens? What is the impact going to be? How is this emergency going to affect us? What is the recovery phase? How are we going to communicate?

6 Meeting Place and Shelter Where is meeting place in case of a fire? What would you do in case of a tornado? Do you know the signals/codes? What is to be done with patients?

7 Who needs a plan? All employers need a plan! If <10 employees:  Plan does not need to be in writing  Can communicate the plan orally

Training for EAP All employers must train employees in emergency planning each year! Provide CPR/First Aid for employees Fire drills, tornado drills, lock down drills, help prepare for disasters 8

9 Prepare for an emergency: the Plan Determine:  preferred means of reporting an emergency  emergency escape procedures and route assignments  procedures for employees who stay behind  procedures to account for all employees  rescue and medical duties  contact information and job duties

Preparing for emergency: Do a walk through with fire department Check fire alarms and exits Read evacuation plans Keep areas clean 10
