LESSON PLAN The Life Cycle of a Seed BETTY PEREZ EDIT 641 This template can be used as a starter file to give updates for project milestones. Consider that attendees will print in black and white or grayscale. Run a test print to make sure your colors work when printed in pure black and white and grayscale. Project Overview GRADE: Kindergarten OVERVIEW: This lesson will be teach the students the concept of how a seed become a plant OBJECTIVES: Students will learn able to learn what seeds need to grow and become a tree. What is the project about? Define the goal of this project Is it similar to projects in the past or is it a new effort? Define the scope of this project Is it an independent project or is it related to other projects? * Note that this slide is not necessary for weekly status meetings

TIME FRAME: Week 1: the teacher will introduce the seed life cycle story using the Scratch Program. Also, she will introduce the material to plan a seed. Week 2: the students will pant their seed and record their observation in their journal. Week 3: the students will observe their seed with a magnifying glass. Week 4: the students will continue observing their seed. They can water their seed as needed. Week 5: the students will be playing the game made on Scratch call “Pictures Matching the Words” * If any of these issues caused a schedule delay or need to be discussed further, include details in next slide.

MATERIALS: Smartboard to present the Scratch program A Journal notebook Seed, Soil, water, plastic bag Magnifying glass Duplicate this slide as necessary if there is more than one issue. This and related slides can be moved to the appendix or hidden if necessary.

STANDARDS: a. Identify the common needs such as food, air, and water of familiar living things.   b. Predict, explain, and infer patterns based on observations and representations of living things, their needs, and life cycles.   c. Make and record by drawing, acting out, or describing observations of living things and how they change over time.

ASSESSMENT:   Using the Scratch program students need to play games called “Math the Picture with the Word”. In this game the students have to match the picture with the words. These pictures and words represent the elements of life cycle of a seed. Students need to draw the sequence of the seed to become a plant in their journal Students need to write simple sentences explaining the changing that a seed makes to become a plant in their journal. Teacher will be grading the student using rubric
