Perimeter Topic: Finding the perimeter of quadrilaterals Instructor: Mrs. Julia Whalen

Lesson Objectives ( Use your microphone to read the goals aloud) Explain what perimeter is Solve for the perimeter of a given figure Create your own quadrilateral figure and solve for the perimeter

Quick Check Write down as many words related to PERIMETER as you can using your pen/ highlighter tool.

PERIMETER Perimeter measures the space AROUND the shape. You can find the perimeter of a shape by adding up all of the sides. Green Check or Red X if your brainstorm guess was correct.

Video Tutorial NAM Copy and paste this link into your web browser if the link doesn't work for you.

Finding the Perimeter The shape is a rectangle Add up all the lengths of the sides Write the unit when giving your final answer 3 feet 12 F E T 12 F E T

GUESS WHAT?! It doesn't matter what order you add the sides up in to find the area as long as you add up all of the sides. Raise your hand if you can tell me why the order the sides are added on doesn't change the final sum.

Use your emoticons to show if you agree with the following perimeter of a figure. The perimeter of this shape is 48 cm.

Raise your hand to tell what this quadrilateral is called.Solve for the perimeter! (Use pen or text box)

Questions??? Do you have any questions?

The next 5 slides are blank. Find the one with your name on it and design a quadrilateral in it. Label the lengths of the sides. The class will try to solve for the perimeter of your figure. Make sure you know what the answer is! Raise your hand when you are done.

Questions??? Do you have any questions?

SSTTRRETTCHHHHH!!! Melinda's desk is a trapezoid that has a perimeter of 120 inches, with two diagonal sides that are 24 inches long, and one base that is 39 inches long. How many inches is the other base? Write your answer in the chat box.

Post-Assessment  What is perimeter?  How do you solve for it?  Use your pen/highlighter/text box to respond
