Presentation transcript:

In our country, the carnival appeared in the time of Sarmatian nobility and traditional Polish celebration of the carnival were determined for many years.Poles liked to look for opportunities to have fun, because life in the rural mansions was boring at times. Throughout the period of the feast expeditions, they organized sleigh with fire. They are no spontaneous now, but they always are thoroughly planned. Party lies in the fact that the carriage drove from manor to manor, in each participating in a hearty feast. It usually tooks several days, and in any such manor merry and overnight few days.

Carnival are pompously celebrated to this day. Poles like to have fun, hanging out with friends, and quite a number also likes to play spontaneously with strangers. We often organize carnival parties at home, but that isn’t one possiblity. We can also take part in public events: in restaurants, theaters, cinemas and other cultural institutions. After the period of the 70's and 80's madness, when merry with music at parties breakthrough year came in Poland, when the carnival was ousted in the shade. Today we have fun at parties again, but they have taken a more public character. We go out into the streets where are set to stage a concert of celebrities dance and sing even without the alcohol.

Carnival in Kraków Kraków is the Polish city, which is known from the carnival’s celebration. There are organising many events like concerts of popular singers, cabarets etc., costume parades, public screenings of funny films, exhibitions, fashion shows… A very popular habit are fast free lessons of dance like salsa, which often take parts on streets. At the end of the carnival in Krakov is organized the so-called decapitation of „Mięsopust”. It’s straw puppet. Before the decapitation it’s carried on Krakow’s street.

In the capital of Poland the carnival is celebrated too. Many parties and events bring together people of all ages, Warszawa residents and tourists, Polish and people from other countries. There aren’t special Warszawa habits for carnival time, but city authorities and various organizations organize parties, parades, shows – like in Krakow.

In the villages of Slask the habit of conduct the bear is still continuated. A person dressed as a bear is conducted across the main road. Every woman should dance with him – it provides the luck for her and her family. This is usually organized by a fire brigade.

In the last Thursday of carnival, so-called „Fat Thursday”(Shrove Tuesday) all Polish eat a lot of sweets, especially all kind of donuts.

One of Polish carnival’s tradition are costume’s parties. It’s especially a great fun for children, who dress up for their favourite characters or animals. Adults sometimes wear a costume or a mask, too.

In the carnival in Polish school are organized parties for middle school students. This prom is always in January or February. On this ball all students from last classes are invited and their teachers as well. It’s the last occasion to meet with our friends in the school, but not on lessons before the school’s end. On the ball everybody dance Polish traditional dance - polonez.

There were a lot of carnival plays, habits, traditions. Some of them are still continuated. Of old carnival habits were tipycal for rural areas. They favoured the development of traditional folk culture. Now carnival events more often take place in big cities. People who take part in them are nice, happy, tenderhearted, they are able to enjoy and, what is the most important, they can share this fun with other people.
