WSD FRIENDS HOTLINE

NATIONAL STATISTICS ON BULLYING 28% OF STUDENTS IN GRADES 6-12 EXPERIENCED BULLYING 30% ADMIT THEY HAVE BULLIED SOMEONE ELSE 70.6% REPORT SEEING BULLYING HAPPEN AT SCHOOL THE MOST COMMON TYPES OF BULLYING ARE VERBAL AND SOCIAL BULLYING HAPPENS ANYWHERE YOU FIND KIDS (SCHOOL, BUS, HALLWAYS, RESTROOMS, CYBERSPACE) WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT?

WSD FRIENDS HOTLINE THE FRIENDS HOTLINE IS A WAY FOR STUDENTS TO ANONYMOUSLY REPORT ANYTHING THEY FEEL IS A THREAT TO SAFETY OF THEMSELVES OR OTHERS IN WEBER SCHOOL DISTRICT. o BULLYING o THREATS o FIGHTS o WEAPONS o ALCOHOL/DRUG USE o VIOLENCE o SUICIDAL/SELF-HARM BEHAVIORS

HOW YOU DO TO REPORT SOMETHING? THE PERSON MAKING THE REPORT SENDS A TEXT TO (CRIMES) BEGIN YOUR TEXT WITH THE WORDS: FRIENDS THBELL (MAKE SURE THERE IS A SPACE BETWEEN THE WORDS FRIENDS AND THBELL) REPORT THE DANGER OR UNSAFE CONDITION THE REPORT IS SENT TO THE OGDEN REAL-TIME CRIME CENTER WHERE IT WILL BE DOCUMENTED. (PRANK REPORTS WILL BE TREATED SERIOUSLY AND MAY RESULT IN PROSECUTION) Friends THBell Some older kids told John Doe they are going to fight him after school

HOW DOES IT WORK? YOU WILL RECEIVE A TEXT IMMEDIATELY ASKING YOU TO CALL 911 IF IT IS AN EMERGENCY. YOU WILL ALSO RECEIVE AN IDENTIFICATION CODE SO THE COMPUTER CAN COMMUNICATE WITH YOU AGAIN IF NEEDED. YOU CAN CONTINUE TO SEND INFORMATION FROM THE SAME PHONE AT ANY TIME. YOU WILL REMAIN ANONYMOUS AT ALL TIMES. SCHOOL OFFICIALS CAN COMMUNICATE WITH YOU THROUGH THE IDENTIFICATION CODE ONLY. IF YOU WANT TO STOP THE COMMUNICATION, TEXT THE WORD STOP TO THE COMPUTER AND THE TEXTING WILL END.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN SOMETHING IS REPORTED? SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION, COUNSELORS AND SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS WILL WORK TOGETHER TO ENSURE PROPER FOLLOW UP BASED UPON THE INFORMATION RECEIVED AND HELP ESTABLISH THE RELIABILITY OF THE REPORT.

WHY? THE FRIENDS HOTLINE WILL ALLOW ANONYMOUS TWO-WAY COMMUNICATION BETWEEN STUDENTS AND SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION OR LAW ENFORCEMENT IN AN EFFORT TO KEEP OUR SCHOOL SAFE. THE GOAL IS TO ALLOW STUDENTS TO SAFELY REPORT DANGEROUS SITUATIONS IN A PRIVATE AND CONFIDENTIAL WAY TO HELP KEEP THEMSELVES AND THEIR FRIENDS SAFE. UTAH STATE LAW DEFINES BULLYING, HARASSMENT, AND HAZING AS CRIMES. THE GOAL OF THE FRIENDS HOTLINE IS TO HELP ENSURE THE SAFETY AND WELL-BEING OF ALL MEMBERS OF THE WEBER SCHOOL DISTRICT COMMUNITY.
