Unit 2 Lesson 1 PowerPoint 1

What is sustainability? The ability to maintain or sustain the needed amount of resources for a given population. Ex. In a given population, an individual requires 2 units of food per day to survive. Sustainability is the populations ability to sustain that required level of food for survival.

Is Water Sustainability an Issue? ∙ America? ∙ Middle East? ∙ Mexico? ∙ Africa?

How much water do you use in a day?

Freshwater Facts ment/freshwater/freshwater-101-interactive/ ment/freshwater/freshwater-101-interactive/ 2.5% of all Earth’s water is freshwater. Of that 2.5% % is trapped in glaciers and ice caps -10% is found in surface waters, including lakes and rivers -30% is found in groundwater

Hidden Water Water is important, because we need it for everything: The clothes we wear, the food we eat, etc. All of these things rely on water. You could say it is our most valuable resource. ment/freshwater/freshwater-101-interactive/ ment/freshwater/freshwater-101-interactive/

Water Waste How often have you wasted water? As Americans, do we understand the value of clean water?

Reflection: How would your life be without water?
