Electromagnetism: the interaction between electricity and magnetism About all you can do with this is make a compass needle move

Solenoid: a coil of wire with an electric current in it

Electromagnet: a coil that has an iron core and that acts as a magnet when an electric current is in the coil It is a solenoid with a piece of iron in the center

How to make one: You wrap a wire around a solid iron core and attach it to a power source You can use iron, cobalt, or nickel as the core due to the domains of these metals being able to easily align and become magnetic If you want to increase the magnetic field all you need to do is make the wire longer and add more loops to your solenoid

Electric motor: device that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy
