HOW GOD PRODUCES CHILDREN

Luke 1:26-29 In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.

Luke 1:30-34 But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end.” “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”

Luke 1:35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.

What the Bible says about our Lord’s birth & the Christian New Birth are similar.

I. Both are Conceived by the Holy Spirit.

B. The Holy Spirit is involved with the New Birth. John 3:3-5 - In reply Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again. “How can a man be born when he is old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb to be born!” Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. I. Both are Conceived by the Holy Spirit.

B. The Holy Spirit is involved with the New Birth. 1. It’s necessary! John 3:3 - In reply Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again. I. Both are Conceived by the Holy Spirit.

B. The Holy Spirit is involved with the New Birth. 2. It involves water, a Jewish emblem of purification. John 3:5 - Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. I. Both are Conceived by the Holy Spirit.

II. Both are Consummated through the Living Word.

A. The Word of God was made flesh. John 1:1-3 & 14 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made... The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.

1. The Word was God’s agent for creating everything. II. Both are Consummated through the Living Word.

Both are Consummated through the Living Word.

B. The Word of God has made flesh imperishable. I Peter 1: Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart. For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God... And this is the word that was preached to you. II. Both are Consummated through the Living Word.

1. This is the preached word, concerning the Living Word. I Peter 1: Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart. For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God... And this is the word that was preached to you. II. 2. This word will purify us when we obey it.

3. This word will bear fruit in our lives.

I. Both are Conceived by the Holy Spirit. II. Both are Consummated through the Living Word. III. Both have a Confession of Commitment.

A. What was Mary’s commitment? Luke 1:38 - “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May it be to me as you have said.” III. Both have a Confession of Commitment.

B. What kind of commitment must you make? John 1: Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God — children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God. III. Both have a Confession of Commitment.

B. What kind of commitment must you make? 1. How should you express your trust? Romans 10: That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved Romans 10: That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. III. Both have a Confession of Commitment.

B. What kind of commitment must you make? 2. What is your statement of faith? It’s the Good Confession you make before you are baptized! III. Both have a Confession of Commitment.

a. There are two Good Confes- sions. Matthew 16: “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Acts 8:37 – “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” III. Both have a Confession of Commitment.
