URISA 2004 FGDC Standards Initiatives

URISA 2004 Future Directions “Making Framework Real” Goal: Framework Data Standards approved, adopted, and implemented Goal: Other standards of national importance as identified in OMB Circular A-016 (2002) to be approved, adopted, and implemented –Julie Maitra, FGDC Standards Coordinator, leads this effort with the FGDC Standards Working Group

URISA 2004 Registered Review: Preliminary Results Number of registrants: 343 Number of registrants who downloaded documents: 242 Number of registrants who commented: 21 Number of comments: Comments by theme/mode: TBD

URISA 2004 Framework data standards Initially developed through Geospatial One-Stop, but FGDC has assumed leadership for continued standards activities. Public review extended to November 15, 2004 FGDC appreciates efforts by URISA to promote participation in public review Comments being evaluated by editing committees Approval by American National Standards Institute (ANSI) expected in CY 2005 Implementation schemas that can be used to create, validate, and process geographic information will be publicly available.

URISA 2004 Other standards of national importance Baseline (Maritime) Biological Resources Climate Cultural and Demographic Statistics Cultural Resources Earth Cover Buildings and Facilities Federal Land Ownership Status Flood Hazards Geographic Names Geologic Housing International Boundaries Law Enforcement Statistics Marine Boundaries Offshore Minerals Outer Continental Shelf Submerged Lands Public Health Public Land Conveyance (patent) Records Shoreline Soils Transportation (Marine) Vegetation Watershed Boundaries Wetlands

URISA 2004 Project to develop a Shoreline Data Content Standard approved by FGDC Standards WG in March 2004 Address Data Standard completed public review in 2003; an editing committee composed of URISA representatives and other stakeholders was formed to ensure wide public representation. The FGDC welcomes feedback from URISA to identify which data themes require standards and to help set the FGDC standards program of work in the near term. Other standards of national importance
