Driving a car makes him more______________. Although the car brings Jack a lot of convenience, sometimes it is a _________ because there is less and less ________________, but more and more ___________________. What’s more, cars are the __________________________. commuting time punctual nuisance parking space traffic jams major source of pollution

Who is the speaker? Is “Let’s Talk” the name of the show? What’s the topic for today? Listen to the beginning of the text and try to answer the following questions. The hostess Yes, it is. To own or not to own a car.

To own or not to own a car Namefor or against opinion Mr Zhang Miss Wang Ms Li for against which sentence shows the opinion I’ll certainly buy one. I would prefer public transport. They are also a nuisance.

To own or not to own a car Name for or against reasons Mr Zhang My _________ time will be ________. More time _________________________. Miss Wang Travelling by ____________and ______________will become ______________,and more ____________________. Ms Li They are the major ________of _____________. Owning a private car is______________. for against commuting shortened will be available for work and recreation underground light rail cheaper, faster punctual source pollution expensive

To own or not to own a car advantagesdisadvantages Time will be saved. Driving is enjoyable/cool. Life will be easier and more convenient. People don’t need to travel on crowded buses or underground trains any more. Car owners feel pretty comfortable, especially on rainy days. … More traffic jams will be caused. Owning a car is expensive. More people will be killed in car accidents. More spaces will be used to build parking lots. Driving a car for a long time is not good for health. … advantagesdisadvantages

Are you for or against owning a private car? Is it a wise decision to own a private car? I think I believe In my opinion From my point of view First Second What’s more In addition Finally However In one word In a word In brief

I think owning a private car is a wise decision. Because first, if I drive to work, my commuting time will be shortened and more time will be available for work and recreation. Second, driving a car is cool and enjoyable. What’s more, people don’t need to travel on crowded buses or underground trains any more. In addition, car owners feel pretty comfortable, especially on rainy days. So life will be easier and more convenient. In brief, when I grow up, I will buy a car.

From my point of view, it’s not a wise decision to own a private car. First, owning a car is expensive. Second, they are the major source of pollution. What’s more, more traffic jams will be caused and more people will be killed in car accidents. In addition, travelling by underground and light rail will become cheaper, faster and more punctual. In one word, I’m against owning a private car.

I believe owning a private car has both advantages and disadvantages. First, if I have a car, my commuting time will be shortened and more time will be available for work and recreation. Second, owning a car is enjoyable. What’s more, we don’t need to wait for buses. However, owning a car is very expensive. In addition, they are the major source of pollution. Sometimes more cars will cause traffic jams. So before you decide to buy a car, you should think about these problems.

Fill in the blanks: At eight o’clock in the evening, the hostess of Let’s Talk invited a few guests to the programme. Their topic was “To ______ or not to own a car”. Mr Zhang, an __________, was among them. He said he would _______ _______ ________ because his commuting time would _______ ___________ if he had a car. But Miss Wang, a _________, would rather travel by __________ __________ because the service of underground and light railway lines will be greatly __________ in the future and it is ________, __________ and more punctual. Ms Li __________ with Miss Wang. She thought that cars were a nuisance. According to Ms Li, cars were not only ___________ but also a major source of ____________. own engineer buy a car be shortened teacher public transport improvedcheaperfaster agreed expensive pollution
