ENGLISH FOR ACADEMIC PURPOSES SoFL101 & SoFL SoFL101 classes – capacity SoFL102 classes – capacity 20 Distributed all over the week at all times… Pass rate for 101 – around 60% Pass rate for 102 – around 65% But very much depends on Faculty/Dept….

ENGLISH FOR BUSINESS SoFL205/6 5 classes for SoFL205 in semester 1 – capacity 30 1 class each day Passing SoFL101/102 or previous BENG courses is not currently a pre-requisite to take SoFL205 But 205 is a pre-requisite for 206

MODERN LANGUAGES German, Russian and French Levels I, III, V, VII will be offered in semester 1 Students will not be able to register for multiple levels Students from all faculties will be mixed together (including those taking compulsory and elective courses) İİBF pass rates are likely to go down…

MODERN LANGUAGES CONT. Other languages offered as electives will also be open to İİBF students (if they want/can take them)

SPECIAL RULES… İİBF students who have previously passed a language course at a certain level will be exempted from any lower levels Eg a student who has already passed German III will not have to take German II But from this semester, students will not be entitled to jump levels unless they can pass an exemption test for that level

EXEMPTION TESTS German, Russian and French exemption tests for levels I, II, III and IV will be held on 16 September at 2pm (please let us know asap if any other levels are required) Students are only entitled to sit for an exemption for a course they have the right to attend (eg a student who has passed German I can take the exemption test for II but not for higher levels) No student who has taken and failed a course level can take an exemption test for that level subsequently

BUNDLED CLASSES German and Russian ‘bundled’ classes will be offered to selected İİBF students for 2015/16 Semester 1: German I-II, German III-IV, German V-VI Russian I-II, III-IV Students study 2 levels in 1 semester Only İİBF students who are ‘off track’ with their language requirements are eligible [may be reviewed depending on demand]

BUNDLED CLASSES There is 6 hours’ tuition per week – very intensive course If a student fails a level in the bundled class system, they will lose their right to attend bundled classes SoFL will only offer this for 1 academic year

FINALLY For German, Russian & French, all levels are likely to be offered in semester 2 in order to try to help İİBF students meet their course requirements
