Regional and Provincial Partners Participate on the SDOH PHN Network Advocacy – Provincial Consultations Minimum Wage Provincial Poverty Reduction Plan

Community Partnerships SDOH are complex and require collaboration amongst key community stakeholders to enable us to: Collectively identify needs Work together towards a shared common vision and goal Provide input within our area of expertise Collectively determine the best solutions Develop a coordinated & integrated approach that creates healthy, resilient people and communities

Community Partnerships in the HKPR District CKL/Haliburton County Poverty Reduction Steering Committee - Poverty Reduction Strategy Northumberland Poverty Reduction Action Committee Affordable Housing coalitions in CKL and Northumberland CKL Integrated Community Sustainability Plan – Health & Education subcommittee Northumberland Youth Social Justice Committee

Role of Government All levels of government are key partners in our work. They play a critical role in addressing the SDOH including poverty reduction. Federal Provincial Municipal

Ontario Poverty Reduction Strategy The province has developed the Ontario Poverty Reduction Strategy: Breaking the Cycle and they are challenging municipalities to develop their own “the municipal governments are closest to their communities and have tools to respond to the needs of communities. We are asking them to show leadership by putting their resources towards poverty reduction”

Ontario Poverty Reduction Strategy Some municipalities are developing poverty reduction strategies including; CKL and Haliburton, Peterborough, Nipissing, Waterloo, Kingston, Ottawa, Niagara Region etc.

CKL and County of Haliburton Poverty Reduction Strategy Steering committee includes leaders from various backgrounds … social, health, legal, housing/poverty coalition members and councilors for CKL and Haliburton County

Health Equity Indicators “ As income is a powerful social determinant of health, poverty reduction has been prioritized as an area for local board of health action.” Indicator 5 “This questions pertains to the provincial poverty reduction strategy …does the Board of Health participate in local poverty reduction efforts?”

Effectively Moving Forward
