E MPTY B OWLS 281 To Benefit P R I S M

What Is Empty Bowls? A simple and impactful way for kids to be agents of change.

What Is Empty Bowls? Empty Bowls 281 is an integration of hunger awareness & social justice education with hands-on art. Ellie Anderson KINDERGARTNER

What Is Empty Bowls? It teaches our kids about poverty while providing them with a tangible opportunity to make a difference.

Why Empty Bowls? Because hunger exists in OUR community.

Why Empty Bowls? Hunger is the physical and mental condition that comes from not eating enough food due to insufficient economic, family or community resources. SOUPER HERO Mayor ReNae Bowman, Crystal

Why Empty Bowls? More than HALF of the hungry people who visit food shelves are children. Rebekah Howitz FIRST GRADER

Why Empty Bowls? Hungry kids have difficulty learning and have more medical problems and absenteeism than kids with adequate nutrition. SOUPER HERO Stan Mack, District 281 SOUPERintendent

What is PRISM? PRISM is the place in our community where families can go when they are having trouble making ends meet. SOUPER HERO Mayor Martin Opem, New Hope

What is PRISM? PRISM has lots of programs and resources for families who are struggling financially. SOUPER HERO Senator Ann Rest, District 45

What is PRISM? PRISM has a food shelf, which is a place families can get free groceries to keep them from going hungry. PRISM calls our food shelf the MarketPlace.

What is PRISM? The PRISM MarketPlace is set up like a grocery store. Families can choose the kinds of food they like, so even picky kids get enough to eat.

What is PRISM? Anyone who comes to PRISM for help with food gets to sit down and talk to someone (a caseworker) about what is going on in their life. Often, when a family needs help with food, they also need help with other things. SOUPER HERO Lee Lindsey Jr., Community Ed Advisory Council Member Bailey Pridey FOURTH GRADER

What is PRISM? PRISM’s other programs include: Financial Assistance to keep families from losing their homes. Project Family Car and Ways to Work to help families buy a car so they can keep their jobs. PRISM Express to help people without access to affordable transportation to get to appointments and run errands. PRISM Automotive Repair to fix cars for families so their budget isn’t completely thrown off by car trouble. Support Programs to help with all those little “extras” which often cost too much for struggling families: Clothes Closet, Birthday Shop, School Supplies, Holiday Shoppe, Furniture & Household, Car Care Class, Budget Class, and more!

Empty Bowls 281 makes a difference… PRISM is part of our community. The families PRISM serves are part of our community. The people who support PRISM are part of our community. Working together, we make our whole community stronger.

Why Empty Bowls? PILGRIM LANE SCHOOL Staff & Students Hands-on….making a difference. To remind us of all the empty bowls in our community.
