1 2015 Annual Gift of Giving Back Community Food Drive When Why How Who  Organizations we are helping: Salvation Army, Partnership West, Carpenter Hospice, Halton Women’s Place  Collect Food from Family & Friends, work, stores and other places  Corporate Donations  Plan team events  See ideas on how to fundraise for Food  November  2015 Timeline  This food drive is important to the City of Burlington. Without it, our beneficiaries won’t have food to supply to those who need it.  2014 we raised 281,878.31lbs of food, worth over 2.5m worth of food to our community. 3 2015 Annual Gift of Giving Back Community Ideas for Kids to Collect Food Kids Ideas  Have a school movie night or event and have a drop box for food. Talk to teachers and get their help speaking with the principal to get permission to communicate the collection activities in the school.  Make a theme for each day of the week and tell people to bring in cans that fit the theme, like Protein Monday, Twoonie Tuesday, or Carb Friday.  If hosting a Halloween Party or Thanksgiving Dinner, ask family and friends to bring a canned food item.  Talk to 10: encourage each parent to solicit 10 contacts of theirs to generate fundraising (either a monetary donation or canned goods)  School involvement: bring your child to the Principal's office and explain the fundraising event. See if you can get the school's buy in and possibly put a drop box in the school.  Child Insight: Talk to your child and get their ideas on the top 5 ways we can generate canned goods within the community. We may be surprised at the ingenuity of our little guys and girls  Visit local companies and ask for donations  Ask teams you are playing to bring canned goods to donate  Parents: check to see if your organization will donate food or money  Drop flyers at neighbours’ house to notify of collection day in your neighbourhood  Kids can make presentations in class about hunger, homelessness and poverty  Dress down day - bring in food or pay $2.00 to participate  Collect change fundraiser - everyone bring in loose change  Garage sale/Bake in your neighbourhood  Halloween - collect change when go trick or treating  Having a birthday party? Collect food instead of gifts

Business/Family Donations  For money donations from businesse,s you can make cheques payable to Salvation Army and a tax receipt will be issued. You can either take 2lbs per dollar or you can work with the Salvation Army to give us the money to buy food. Make it FUN!!!!!  Have fun with your kids! Make it a family challenge and get everyone involved.
