I can find fractions of whole numbers.

Pop Quiz Just kidding…not today. Today we will be discussing ways to find fractions of whole numbers. For example 1/2 of 12. We all know the answer but how did we get there? Are there questions we can ask? What do I do?

What steps do we follow? Step 1: Take a good look at the denominator and the whole number then ask yourself; what is 12 divided by ÷ 2 = ____ 1 of 12= ____ 2 Step 2: Multiply your answer by the numerator. 6 x 1 = _____ 6 6 6

Steps Continues…. Step 3: Check your answer. 1 of 12= ____ 2 It’s Simple! you just multiply your answer by the denominator! 6 x 2 = _____ How? 12 6 I donno

That was easy enough! Let’s try…. 2 of 25= ____ ÷ 5 = _____ 10 H o w w o u l d y o u c h e c k t h i s o n e ? 1 0 x 5 i s w a y m o r e t h a n x 2 = ____

Well….. 2 of 25= ____ 5 5 Ask ourselves…what 1 of 25 = _____ 5 10

Now that we know the answer… 10 What do we do with the 5? 2 of 25 = 10 and 1 of 25 = x 2 = ______ T h a t w a s h a r d ! We use that answer and multiply it by the numerator.

That was kind of tough 3 of 45= ____ If we check our answer we find out that 1/5 of 45 is…. and 9 x 3 is…. 27 If you did all that stand up and…

Let’s Try out what we learned fractions_fractionof.html
