THE ALPS !!! A MOUNTAIN RANGE IN EUROPE By Ethan

WHERE ARE THE ALPS? The Alps is a vast mountain system in south central Europe. About 13 million people live in the Alps in over 6,000 communities. The Alps are one of the largest and highest mountain ranges in the world, covering some 192,000km 2 of land area, stretching over 750 miles (1,200 km) from Austria and Slovenia in the east, through Italy, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Germany to France in the west.

TYPES OF PLANTS AND ANIMALS THAT LIVE IN THE ALPS As you climb higher up a mountain it gets colder and the trees eventually thin out and disappear. When it gets too cold for trees to grow, it is called a Timberline. On mountains forests can grow but when you get a few miles from the summit they will wear off because it is to cold for anything to grow.
