Famous People A gentleman farmer Jethro Tull created the seed drill which made it possible to plant seeds in regular rows Tull also created a horse-drawn cultivator to do his work Farmers would leave a field empty after a season to allow the nutrients in the soil to replenish for the next Farmer Viscount Charles Townshend found a way to continuously grow crops on a field, by planting a different kind of crop on that field every other season.

Key Terms and Definitions ●Factors of production- basic resources necessary for industrialization ●Crop rotation- one year plant grain crop such as wheat and barley then another year grow root crops such as turnips ●Enclosure movement- when many farmers during the 1600’s and 1700’s combined smaller plots of land into larger ones for large scale farming.

Advancements A seed drill is a machine that plant seeds in rows A horse drawn cultivator was invented Crop rotation was a big part of agriculture Iron plows replaced wooden ones Today, instead of using horses to plow fields, tractors with plows attached do it.

Why is our topic an important factor? Agriculture was important because it meant that people could get more food faster because farming became more efficient. An increase in food supply meant that England could increase its export of food.
