TWINS

Monozygotic twins Monozygotic twins (identical twins) are identical genetically. Identical twins that share the same placenta occur in only 1% of the pregnancies. This is due to a relatively late egg split. In utero mortality rate is about 50% due to cord entanglements.

Identical twins in utero

Triplets, quadruplets, quintuplets etc.

Conjoined twins An extremely late split of identical twins can cause conjoined twins. They fail to separate completely. Abby & Brittany Hansel

Dizygotic twins Dizygotic twins (fraternal twins) are as similar genetically as any other brother or sister.
