By Marisela Marquina Interviewed : Patrice Dial, M.Ed.

I interviewed Patrice Dial who works in Othello. She has her masters degree and is the co- director at where she works at. She works with women and children in dealing with the family violence that has already occurred. She focuses on the cognitive and effects on children; teaching them self regulation.

The organization offers crisis intervention, helps suicidal, and provides trauma focused therapy.

Her duties are to oversee other therapist. She’s also a therapist herself and helps 4-5 people a day.

A typical day consists of evaluation on a client. She focuses on motivation and solution therapy on her client. She does assessments and also collaborates with her clients.

She likes seeing clients move. She likes seeing the fact that she has given them empowerment for themselves.

She does not like the paper work and there is lots of it. She also dislikes that not everyone gets treated.

Mrs. Dial would like to see more people. She would enjoy seeing clients back to back if she could.

Chemical dependency issues some form. She believes the lack of parenting skills and social skills are also a cause.

Collaboration with the client. Help get the client to change and motivate interviewing.

Getting out there. Challenge groups and reaching kids at an early age.

Future social workers need to know that children are a lot safer even though they are taken away from their family and possessions. They also need to know the cycle of violence. Get education from both sides.
