WHAT IS THE STUDENT COUNCIL?  A team of student leaders  Goals: Work with students, parents, teachers, and administration to improve the school.  School Policy Discussions  Adjustments and Suggestions for Positive Learning  Fundraisers  Events  Other…

PRIMARY POSITIONS OF STUDENT COUNCIL 1.President 2.Vice President 3.Secretary 4.Grade Representatives

SECONDARY POSITIONS OF STUDENT COUNCIL 1.Homeroom Representatives  Lead homeroom discussions, report to Grade Rep, does not attend SC meetings.  Grade Representative and Homeroom Representative will be the same for Grade 11, since they only have one class.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR STUDENT COUNCIL  President: Grade 10 or 11  Vice President and Secretary: Any grade  GPA Requirement: 3.0 or higher for returning students (Grades 10 and 11).  Grade 9 students running for SC must be in good standing with their current grades.

CAMPAIGNING  President’s Goal = get popularity among the students and staff. More popularity = more votes.  Posters  Videos  Persuading students and staff in person during free time

WHAT SHOULD GO ON A POSTER OR VIDEO?  Names of each member in your cabinet (president, vice president, secretary).  Why students should vote for your cabinet.  Teacher endorsements.  Creativity with design—be artistic!

EXAMPLE OF CAMPAIGN POSTER VOTE Davy for SC President! With the fabulous Vice President Koki and Super Secretary Tracy We will make your uniforms pretty and witty. Vote for us! Endorsed by Mr. Doyle

TEACHER ENDORSEMENTS  Endorsement = Support. Getting endorsements = more influence and popularity during the campaign (students have a better chance to vote for you!).  Who can endorse me?  How can I get them to endorse me?

TEACHER ENDORSEMENTS  Teachers may only endorse:  ONE presidential cabinet  ONE representative per grade Cabinets and Representatives can have more than one endorsement, but teachers can only choose ONE for each. Mr. Manno can not endorse; do not ask him!

CAMPAIGNING RULES In your campaign posters or videos, you may NOT: a.Disrespect, insult, or slander other people in any way. b.Lie or give false information

CAMPAIGNING RULES You can NOT put your campaign posters on: a.Walls with paint. b.Inside classrooms without teacher’s permission c.Hallway notice boards without teacher’s permission d.In the canteen or other schools without permission

AND IF YOU BREAK THE CAMPAIGN RULES…  You and your cabinet will be disqualified from the election. 

IF I WANT TO RUN FOR STUDENT COUNCIL, WHAT DO I DO? QAQ Register with Mr. Manno, silly. President Registration Deadline: Wednesday, Oct. 9th Grade Rep. Registration Deadline: Thursday, Oct. 10th Cabinet (VP and Secretary): Friday, Oct. 11th
