How are autobiographical works written in order for a reader to connect to another’s personal experience? E.Q.

What is an autobiography? Story of the writer’s own life, told by the writer. They are nonfiction because it is about real people and events. They are written from the point of view of the author. The author’s purpose can be to inform, entertain, persuade or explain his own ideas to the reader

Point of View The perspective or vantage point, from which a story is told. Most autobiographies are in first person point of view.

Types of Autobiographies Words Memoir Essay Journal Anecdote Definitions An account of ones personal life Short nonfictional work about a particular subject Daily account of events and the writer’s thoughts or feelings about the events. A brief story about an interesting, amusing or strange event.

Biography Form of nonfiction in which the writer tells the story of another person. Author’s purpose can be to inform, entertain, persuade or to explain an idea. An author that writes a biography must research information about the person he will be writing about. He can use both primary and secondary sources.

Primary and Secondary Sources Primary source – original documents, letters, interviews, autobiographies, diaries, creative works (poetry, novels, drama) and relics (artifacts, furniture, clothing) Secondary source – history textbook, book about the effects of historic events (WWII, Depression), magazines, encyclopedias
