When I go to the hospital I have to do this so the hospital nurses and doctors know who I am It gives people important information about me My parent/carers will be pleased if I keep the name band on my wrist I usually have to wear a name band

Sometimes, when I go hospital The doctor will measure my temperature The doctor does this by putting an ‘ear thermometer’ into my ear This can feel a bit funny, but it doesn’t hurt The doctor has to do this to make sure everything is ok My parent/carer will be happy with me when the doctor has finished taking my temperature

When I go hospital I may have to stand against a wall while the nurse measures my height I may have to sit in a special chair while the nurse measures my weight This will give the nurses important information about me My parent/carer will be happy with me when I have finished being measured/ weighed

When I go to the hospital It is very important to take the medicine or tablet, It will help to make me better My parent/carer will be happy if I take the medicine or tablet The doctor may give me some medicine or tablets It is important to take my medicine or tablets when I am told to by doctors/nurses or my Mum and Dad

When I go to the hospital, The test will give the doctor important information about my blood My parents/carer will be happy once I have had my blood test I may have to have a blood test A magic cream may be rubbed on to my wrist/arm, which will stop it from hurting when I have my blood taken A doctor/nurse will then squeeze my arm/wrist, this will help them to get the blood out more easily.

When I go to the hospital My parent/carer will be very happy that I have been brave and had my injection I may have to have an injection The Doctors or nurses will usually use an anaesthetic wipe first to stop it hurting The Doctor will usually tell me just before he gives me the injection It might feel like a prick on my arm

When I go to the hospital This may feel a bit strange, but it will help me get enough food to get better more quickly My parents/care will be very happy if I try to keep this tube in place I may have to have a naso gastric tube fitted this is a tube which goes up my nose and into my tummy

If I break a bone in my body, I will have to go the hospital To fix my broken bone, I may have to wear a plaster I have to keep the plaster on because otherwise my broken bone won’t become better again! My parent/carer will be happy if I keep on the plaster on The nurse will put on the plaster using a sticky material, and I must keep this dry at all times

This will help my burn to get better and stop hurting It is important to keep the dressing on and to try not to touch the dressing, otherwise my burn might take longer to heal My parent/carer will be happy if I keep on the burn dressing I am in hospital because I have burnt myself, I will need a burns dressing

This will help my broken bone to get better and be strong again I may have to keep it on for a long time so I must be careful with it My parent/carer will be happy if I take care of the splint I am in hospital because I have broken a bone, I may need a splint The split may be made out of plastic, and I will have some sticky straps too to hold it in place

When I go to hospital, I might have stay here to sleep, while I am in hospital I can have my parent/carer with me too, and I might make some new friends who are on the same ward as me. My parent/carer will be happy if I stay on this ward in my own bed while in hospital I will be taken to my ward, which is a big room where my bed will be

Before I have an operation I may have to go to a pre- admission clinic My parent/carer will be very happy if I listen to all the things the doctor says I should do. I will probably find out the time and date of my operation. I also might find out when I can eat and if I will need to stay overnight in hospital Here the doctor will give my parent/carer and me important information about my operation

Sometimes after I have been in hospital; I might have to come back to have another check up in the hospital a few weeks later This is to make sure I am getting better from my operation My parent/carer will be very happy if I try hard to stay calm and I let the Doctors or therapists look at my body. The Doctor or Nurse might need to do some checks; e.g. look at my skin to see if my scar is healing up. They might also need to weigh and measure me.

When it’s my turn, I will be sent to the operating theatre I will be given a magic injection that will put me to sleep so the operation doesn’t hurt Once the operation is finished, I will wake up. I might feel a bit unwell when I first wake up. That is OK. The nurses will be able to help me feel more comfortable My parent/carer will be there when I wake up, and happy that I have been brave and had my operation If the doctor is happy with me, then I will be able to go home

When I am in hospital, I may need to have an X-ray The x-ray will show what I look like on the inside, so doctors can see what is wrong with my insides and make me better I may have to stand very still for while, and not move or speak My parent/carer will be happy with me once I have had my scan
