POTATO OF BANGLADESH INROTDUCTION

Now a days potato becomes an integral part of much of the world wide food.It is the world’s largest food crop following Wheat, Maize & Rice.Most of the people of the world’s includes potato as their food menu.It is very cheap food items specially the people of Asain country. Cultivation of potato corp is very wide in Bangladesh includes its Munshiganj, Bogra,Dinajpur,Chapai Nobab gonj Districts.Specially in the area of Bikrrampur under Munshiganj districts is very famous for production of potato.More than 60 percent of total production of potato produces in Munshiganj district of Bangladesh. About 87 lac metric ton potato produced in Bangladesh last year according to the Department of Agriculture Extension offices. Bangladesh is now one of the big potato producing and exporting countries of the world. BRIEF HISTORY POTATO OF BANGLADESH

SEASON OF POTATO CULTIVATION & PRICE Harvesting seasons of potato starts from November till March while price of potato is 8 to 12 per kilogram. In the region, the price of per kg potato is TK 35 in India and Sri Lanka, TK 30 in Nepal, TK 28 in Pakistan, and TK 143 in Thailand whereas in Bangladesh it is being sold within the range of TK 6 to TK 10.

SUTIABLE SOIL & WEATHER OF BANGLADESH FOR POTATO Soil & weather of Bangladesh is utmost suitable for potato cultivation as in every year Bangladesh is affected by strong flood.After flood the soil become more fertile and potato grows without fertilizer but naturally. So test of Potato of Bangladesh is very much delicious and friendly for public health that impressed foreign exporter.

VARIOUS TYPES OF POTATO There are various types of potato produced in Bangladesh including Banila, Dimond, Garnola, Cartinal, Manila etc. Banila is looks like round that mainly produced in Bikrampur under Munshiganj Districts. It is very strong where presence of water is very low which is used to make fried foods, biscuit, chop etc.

MUNSHIGANJ BEST FOR POTATO CULTIVATION In Munshiganj, the largest potato producer district of the country, farmers said for preserving them in cold storage they had to spend Tk. 6 last year. After adding the production cost, they had to spend TK 14 for per kg potato last year, but when they went to sell the potato in September in the wholesale market, they found the price was TK 7 compelling them to incur a 50 per cent loss. In addition to the price of worker payment is very low in Bangladesh in other countries. So the potato rate are more cheap, that impressed exporter of the other countries.

GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO EXPORT POTATO FROM BANGLADESH TO JAPAN If the Japanese investor comes to Bangladesh for cultivating potato, they can export potato very lower price. The people of Bangladesh especially Farmers of Munshiganj urges to Japanese for help them to huge potato cultivation and set up cold storages for preserving potato as well as export it from Bangladesh. For the shortage of cold storages in every year 10 lac metric ton potato gone into rotted according to the report of the Department of Agriculture Extension offices.
