Objectives To consider what to look for in an outstanding session

The focus of an observation is learning How do you establish if learning is taking place?

What does outstanding look like? Discuss with a colleague

Key elements Challenge Meeting the needs of individuals..

Evidence for outstanding Learners are making good or better progress against appropriate and suitably challenging learning outcomes Learners demonstrate / are developing good or better standards of skills, knowledge & understanding relevant to improving economic and social well- being during the lesson & in their work – for programme stage & level

Evidence for outstanding Highly effective planning & delivery of learning, sometimes inspirational Activities sharply & accurately focussed on meeting programme & individual learners’ needs Learners enjoy their learning & are challenged to think & learn for themselves

Video exercise In pairs discuss the video clip – what grade would you give? Is there appropriate challenge? Are needs met

Review To consider what to look for in an outstanding session
