Said and Told Said have similar meaning Tell

saidtold They both mean to communicate verbally with someone. But we often use them differently.

The simple way to think of said and told is … You something You someone something said told

So… TOLD SAID When you mention the listener (a noun or pronoun) You do not mention the listener.

E x a m p l e s :  You said something : Jhon said (that) he was tired.  You told someone something : Jhon told Jane (that) he was tired.

“Told” Personal Object “Told” We usually use “told” with a personal object – me, you, him, her, them, us (the person that we are speaking to): e.g.: She told me that she loved John. He told everybody that he had to leave.

“Said” We usually use “said” without a personal object: e.g.: He said that he had to leave. She said that she loved John.
