Kidnapping Persephone Persephone was picking flowers one day when the ground opened up and swallowed her. Hades had kidnapped the minor goddess. Demeter scoured the earth looking for her only child. Unfortunately she ate a pomegranate. She has to spend half the year in the underworld and half on earth.
