TECHIES Team #2 Phase II Toolkits: 9, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15 Tech 302 Dr. John W. Sinn

Increasing Technology and the Use of Web Conferencing

Technology encompasses many aspects that humans relate to daily Cultural Tools – Activities are systematically delegated out – Activities are coordinated into and entire program – People at all levels must participate in order to succeed in production

Web Conferencing Can Be A Very Helpful Technological Tool If: – Individuals strive to accept it – Learn how to use it – Utilize it to its maximum efficiency

Web Conferencing Can Be Useful If: – We, as a culture, succumb to it – Learn how to work with it – Break ourselves of old habits – Adapt to new ways of doing things

WEB CONFERENCING AS A NEW MEANS OF COMMUNICATION New And Specific Requirements For Its Operation To Be Productive: – Individuals must be willing to come together – Individuals must be disciplined, respectful, and determined – Standards must be set – Individuals must be organized

Group Members Must Always Be Prepared For Presentation This Includes: – Good listening skills – Asking questions – Repeating and rehashing information – Being knowledgeable of previews – Targeting messages – Using positive gestures – Applying personal effort

TECHNOLOGY AND WEB CONFERENCING REQUIRES CONTINUOUS ADAPTATION Individuals Must Learn How To Understand New Technology (Web Conferencing) As They Use It This Requires: – Willingness to delve into a new means of communication – Learning how to improve their own skills with it – Not let on one’s self become alienated by it

As A Group Of Individuals Continuously Experiences With Communicating Via Web Conferencing, They Will Notice: – Signs of steady improvement – Increase in its benefits – Maximum teamwork ability – Less frustration

WEB CONFERENCING’S ADVANTAGES If Individuals Embrace Web Conferencing, Its Success Will Provide: – Efficient means of communication – Maintenance of excellent productivity – Comfort of communicating from your own home – Avoidance of having to travel great distances to intricately communicate

OBJECTIVES OF A TEAM RESEARCHING TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENTS RESEARCHING WEB CONFERENCING: – Utilizing research of a specific technological topic to relate its characteristics to the broader realms of technology and how it affects our world, society, and culture – Goals were to study how technology has affected us in the past, how it affects us now, and how it will affect us in the future – Focusing on the advantages and disadvantages of web conferencing allowed us to apply expansive realizations to the world that has become dependent on technology

PROCEDURE INVOLVEMENT IN A COURSE THAT REQUIRED US TO ENCOUNTER A NEW TECHNOLOGICAL MEANS OF COMPLETING A TASK: – A hands-on approach that thrived solely on communicating and accomplishing goals via technological methods – We as individuals and as a team had to dive into a new system of doing things that is entirely foreign – It was necessary to work individually and work with each other to discover how new technology works and how to get through it. – This required us to become determined to be receptive of new ways of doing things and accepting change

REQUIREMENTS IN ORDER TO BE SUCCESSFUL WITH THIS COURSE WE HAD TO ADAPT TO NEW METHODS SUCH AS: – Becoming familiar with an organized forum to communicate with teammates and a teacher whom we have never physically met – became a necessary tool instead of just a privilege – Physical meetings never took place

EFFECTS OF TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS ADAPTING TO A NEW TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENT: – Confusing and troublesome at first without physical meetings and traditional means of communication – With each day, things became more structured and less foreign – Changed us all in some way regarding the future

CONCLUSIVE RESULTS AS THE COURSE PROGRESSED IT WENT FROM HIGHER DEPENDENCY TO LESS DEPENDENCY: – At first, because of disarray and confusion, the team was very dependent on the forum and chat room to communicate and figure out the process – As the course continued, the quantity of information decreased and the quality of information was emphasized – By the end of the course, each individual became comfortable with a new means of communication and had adjusted to a new way of doing things – The course had evolved from being less convenient to very convenient

PROJECT FOCUS RESULTS A COLLECTIVE ASSESSMENT OF HOW WEB CONFERENCING IS A NEW MEANS OF COMMUNICATION THAT ULTIMATELY AFFECTS US: – Culturally, we systematically delegate activities and coordinate them into an entire program All individuals must participate equally to gain success Without such participation, a fallout with competition will occur Remaining dynamic is essential to constantly improve

WE DETERMINE HOW ADVANTAGEOUS WEB CONFERENCING CAN BE FOR US: – In order for such a technological innovation to be of most convenience to us, we as a people must work with its requirements Emphasizing our listening skills Asking questions Repeating key information Exertion of personal effort

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: – How will such a technological evolution as web conferencing affect our physical environment and its resources? New technological tools like web conferencing will utilize natural resources just like anything else Simultaneously, it will alleviate many of the resources we are currently using with existing tools of living and communicating

MORAL AND ETHICAL VALUES: – What new ethical and moral values will we as a society be faced with when embracing technology? It is necessary for our society to be aware that everyone will not have the full privileges of experiencing and learning technological methods as others do In response, we must be sure that as we grow, we are not leaving other groups behind

DIRECTION OF DISCOVERING THE IMPACTS OF WEB CONFERENCING AND TECHNOLOGY COURSEWORK CONSISTED OF: – Communication tools that we were required to learn and use – A structured system of toolkits containing tables Required Critique Assessments (RCA’s) allowed for opportunity of continual team improvement Standard Dedicated Applications (SDA’s) allowed for the application of specific content and theories in each toolkit Each toolkit broadened our final portfolio based around web conferencing and general technological advancements Resulted in a final compilation of research and conclusions we achieved over the entire course

OVERALL CONCLUSION WHAT WAS GAINED FROM A COURSE CENTERED AROUND THE STUDY OF TECHNOLOGY IN A SOCIETY? – How to use new technological advancements to accomplish a goal – How to relate to new technology on a more direct level instead of what we are used to – We encounter new technology on an everyday basis and use it, live it, and depend upon its conveniences
