My Workspace is an individual online worksite that functions as a private workspace for each user. When you log in, you will automatically open your My Workspace, which will display the Message of the Day and My Workspace Information boxes. By default, these boxes contain announcements and information from the system administrator. ENC 1101ENC 4044 ENC 3035 Navigation Administrative Message Information Calendar Announcements All of your courses will be arranged across the top of the screen in tabs. If you have more courses that can be displayed, those courses will appear in a drop down list either on the extreme right or the left underneath the “My Workspace” tab. c Tabs

Refresh This is one of the most important buttons in Sakai. Use it to refresh and go back to top menu of this section. Menu ENC 1101ENC 4044 ENC 3035

Schedule allows instructors or site organizers to post items in a calendar format. The calendar has day, week, month, year, and flat list views. Many instructors use Schedule to post readings for each class on the day they are due to be read. Research, group, and department projects often use Schedule to post group deadlines. Merging calendars: All calendars on sites you have access to are merged in your My Workspace Schedule. In worksites, you can click Merge to selectively merge calendars from other sites to which you have access. Schedule ENC 1101ENC 4044 ENC 3035

Resources – Your files for all of your courses organized in folders. Using the Resources tool, you can share many kinds of material securely with members of your site, or make them available to the public. You also have your own private Resources area in your My Workspace. You can upload files (e.g., word processing documents, spreadsheets, slide presentations, and videos), as well as create and post HTML (web) pages and simple text documents, and share links to useful web sites. ENC 1101ENC 4044 ENC 3035

To upload files using Resources, in your site's menubar, click Resources: 1.Next to the folder to which you want to add a file, from the Add menu, click Upload Files. 2.Click Browse to find the appropriate file on your computer or network, and then click Open. 3.Next to "Display Name", type the name you want displayed in Resources. If you don't add a display name, the filename will be used. 4.To upload more than one file, click Add Another File. 5.Next to " Notification", specify whether or not you want to have members of the site notified automatically via when the resource is posted. 6.Click Upload Files Now to finish. Upload c ENC 1101ENC 4044 ENC 3035

WebDAV allows you to easily transfer files and folders from your local computer to your Resources folder. WebDAV stands for "Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning". It allows users to collaboratively edit and manage files on remote web servers. Once you have set up WebDAV, your computer will treat your Resources section like any other folder on your local system. You will be able to drag and drop files and folders from Resources just as you would on your computer. Webdav username ENC 1101ENC 4044 ENC 3035

Create a Folder - To store your files. By default, your Resources area has one folder in it, named after your course or project site. To add a subfolder: 1.Near the existing folder, from the Add menu, choose Create Folders. 2.Near "Folder Name", enter a title for your folder. 3.To add a description and control who can access the contents of the folder, click Add details for this item. 4.To create another folder, click Add Another Folder. 5.When you are finished, click Create Folders Now. Replace Whenever you open a file from Resources, such as a Word document, your computer creates a temporary copy and displays it, while the original file stays on the server. If you make any changes to the temporary copy, they are not saved automatically to the original. If you want to change the contents of the original, you will need to open it, make and save your changes, and then replace the original version with your updated version. To replace a Resources file with an updated version from your computer, from the Actions menu next to your file's name, click Upload New Version. Click Browse to select the updated file from your computer, and then click Upload New Version Now. Replace a File – Update on the go. ENC 1101ENC 4044 ENC 3035

ENC 1101ENC 4044 ENC 3035 My Workspace Add Announcement The Announcements tool is used to inform site participants about current items of interest. Announcements can have multiple attachments, such as documents or URLs and appears in the My Workspace tab. To add an announcement: 1.In your site's menubar, click Announcements. On the Announcements screen, near the top, click Add. In the text box next to "Announcement title", type the subject of your announcement. In the text box under "Body", use the WYSIWYG editor to create and format the body of your announcement. 2.Set dates of availability, add attachments and choose how to notify students. 3.Click Add Announcements.

ENC 1101ENC 4044 ENC 3035 The Worksite Setup tool provides information about the worksites to which you currently belong or may join. If you have a role that allows it, you can use this tool to make changes to information about the site, tools available in the site, and access to the site. Worksite

ENC 1101ENC 4044 ENC 3035 In My Workspace, you can set preferences for how and how often you receive notification of worksite activity, such as Announcements, Archive, Resources, and Syllabus. You can also choose which worksites appear in your navigation, and which worksites have their own tabs. Customize Tabs Site Visibility

ENC 1101ENC 4044 ENC 3035 From My Workspace, you can set the and notification preferences for your course sites, project sites, and ePortfolio sites. You cannot adjust your preferences for individual sites. For example, if you set your notification to deliver a daily summary, you will get a daily summary message from all sites to which you belong. Or, if you choose to block low priority announcements or low priority resource notifications, then these will be blocked for all your sites. You cannot block receipt of high priority notifications.
