JESUS: The Cornerstone of Belief Study Series 1 Metro Batangas Christian Church

PURPOSE To reveal the basic truths about Christ. 3 Jesus: The Cornerstone of Belief To encourage someone to believe in Jesus Christ & obey his commands.

Key Verse John 20: Jesus: The Cornerstone of Belief 30 Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. 31 But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

Key Verse John 20: Jesus: The Cornerstone of Belief Why were the Gospels (such as the book of John) written? What results from believing that Jesus is the Christ (Messiah)?

Key Verse John 1:1, 14 3 Jesus: The Cornerstone of Belief 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Key Verse John 1:1, 14 3 Jesus: The Cornerstone of Belief Jesus was with God from the beginning, and he is God who became flesh. Jesus and God are the same in nature.

Key Verse John 14:6 3 Jesus: The Cornerstone of Belief 6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. Jesus is the way. The only way to God is though Jesus.

Key Verse John 8: Jesus: The Cornerstone of Belief 31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." What does Jesus expect from his disciples? We need to hold on to his teachings in order to truly be his disciples. The Greek for “hold” literally means to “remain, abide, or commit.”

Key Verse John 8: Jesus: The Cornerstone of Belief 31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free." NOTE: Obedience is more than just head knowledge or an intellectual kind of belief.

Key Verse 1 John 2:3-6 3 Jesus: The Cornerstone of Belief 3 We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. 4 The man who says, "I know him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But if anyone obeys his word, God's loveis truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: 6 Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.

Key Verse 1 John 2:3-6 3 Jesus: The Cornerstone of Belief This passage shows some expectations for us. When can you say that we know Christ? What do you think God expects from you?

CHALLENGE 3 Jesus: The Cornerstone of Belief We encourage you to get excited to know and appreciate Jesus more. In our next meetings, we will study out important principles based on the expectations of Jesus. The bible will make these clear. Will you take the challenge? Do you see the central role of Jesus in what we should believe?

OPTIONAL VERSES 3 Jesus: The Cornerstone of Belief Doing God’s will brings personal conviction; Jn 7:17 Jesus and God are of the same nature; Heb 1:3; Php 2:5-7; Tit 2:13 Jesus makes God known; Jn 1:18; 14:9 Jesus sought to please God; Jn 5:30\ (for the role of faith; Heb 11:6) Jesus promised eternal life to his believers; Jn 11:25 Belief is important to Jesus; Jn 20:29
