1 What it Means to Believe in Jesus…
1 John 5:10-13 Note: Must believe to be saved (Mark 16:15-16) Preached at West Side church of Christ August 31, 2008 PM Slides 1,14,17

2 1 John 5:10-13 He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son. 11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

3 What its Means to Believe…
Jesus is the Christ Acts 17:2-3; Acts 8:32-35

4 Acts 17:2-3 Then Paul, as his custom was, went in to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures, 3 explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, "This Jesus whom I preach to you is the Christ."

5 Acts 8:32-35 The place in the Scripture which he read was this: "He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; And as a lamb before its shearer is silent, So He opened not His mouth. 33 In His humiliation His justice was taken away, And who will declare His generation? For His life is taken from the earth.“ 34 So the eunuch answered Philip and said, "I ask you, of whom does the prophet say this, of himself or of some other man?“ 35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to him.

6 What its Means to Believe…
Jesus is the Christ Acts 17:2-3; Acts 8:32-35 Jesus is the Son of God John 1:1-3,14; Colossians 2:8-9

7 John 1:1-3, 14 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. (14), And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

8 Colossians 2:8-9 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.

9 What its Means to Believe…
Jesus is the Christ Acts 17:2-3; Acts 8:32-35 Jesus is the Son of God John 1:1-3,14; Colossians 2:8-9 The Virgin Birth of Jesus Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23

10 Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.

11 Matthew 23:1 "Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which is translated, "God with us.“ Note: The fulfillment of the Isaiah prophecy, here stated by Matthew was accomplished in the birth of Jesus.

12 What its Means to Believe…
Jesus is the Christ Acts 17:2-3; Acts 8:32-35 Jesus is the Son of God John 1:1-3,14; Colossians 2:8-9 The Virgin Birth of Jesus Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23 The Death, Burial & Resurrection 1 Corinthians 15:1-4

13 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you--unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.

14 What its Means to Believe…
Jesus is the Christ Acts 17:2-3; Acts 8:32-35 Jesus is the Son of God John 1:1-3,14; Colossians 2:8-9 The Virgin Birth of Jesus Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23 The Death, Burial & Resurrection 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 The Only One Who Can Save Acts 4:10-12; John 6:66-69

15 Acts 4:10-12 Let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. 11 This is the 'stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.' 12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.

16 John 6:66-69 From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more. 67 Then Jesus said to the twelve, “Do you also want to go away?” 68 But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

17 Conclusion Faith leads to Life!
Preached at West Side church of Christ August 31, 2008 PM John 20:30-31

18 John 20:30-31 And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.
